Cleverbridge, a global commerce partner and digital reseller for software and SaaS companies, announced support for Unified Payments Interface (UPI), India's leading real-time payment system. With the transition from software companies to digital-first sales models, it is crucial to enable localized shopping experiences to expand into high-growth markets such as India, where UPI plays a central role in customer transactions.
India's digital economy continues to grow rapidly and UPI is increasingly dominating payment transactions. The system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) offers consumers the ability to pay in real time directly through mobile apps connected to their bank without having to enter card data. Meanwhile, UPI processes more than 20 billion transactions per month, which accounts for the majority of digital payment transactions across the country.
"India opens up huge opportunities for software companies that are expanding globally," said Richard Stevenson, CEO of Cleverbridge. As companies increasingly rely on digital-first sales models, it is crucial to adapt to the purchasing habits of customers in markets such as India. UPI plays a central role in this ecosystem and offers our customers the opportunity to scale their digital revenue more efficiently.”
For many software companies, expanding into markets like India has so far required investment in local infrastructure and reliance on direct sales or partner-based models. Digital commerce, supported by global and local payment methods, opens a more scalable and economical path to the market by reducing the complexity of operations and making direct customer acquisition possible.
Through the availability of UPI alongside widely used payment methods such as Net Banking, Cleverbridge further expands its coverage of the most important digital payment methods in India. In total, Cleverbridge supports over 30 payment methods worldwide, including leading local options such as iDEAL, Boleto, and Alipay, so software companies can consider regional purchasing habits in key markets.
